How did Apostle Tochukwu Okonkwo overcome cancer?
The Abuja based minister and founder of Sheepfold Apostolic International Ministry has shared his powerful testimony of healing, a journey marked by faith, discipline, and spiritual clarity in the face of a life threatening diagnosis.
His story offers practical spiritual lessons for anyone battling serious illness, fear, or uncertainty.
Who Is Apostle Tochukwu Okonkwo?
Apostle Tochukwu Okonkwo is the set man of Sheepfold Apostolic International Ministry, headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria. He became a full-time minister in 2016 and previously served as an evangelist within the Anglican Church from 2016 to 2019.
Before his cancer diagnosis, he had witnessed and preached about divine healing. However, when the illness affected him personally, he says the experience forced him to confront deeper spiritual and mental realities.

The Cancer Diagnosis: Confronting Fear and Choosing Faith
According to Apostle Okonkwo, hearing the word cancer can trigger immediate fear and mental surrender. He describes this as the first major obstacle to healing.
Instead of withdrawing from ministry, he continued preaching, praying, and serving. During that season, he recounts praying for a four-year-old boy who later began walking after previously being unable to walk.
In July 2019, despite uncertainty around his health, he formally registered Sheepfold Apostolic International Ministry with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, a decision he describes as an act of faith rather than fear.

Two Spiritual Blockers That Can Delay Your Healing Journey
1. Death Mentality
One of the core themes in Apostle Okonkwo’s testimony is what he calls “death mentality.”
He explains that while people treat illnesses like malaria as temporary, a cancer diagnosis often causes individuals to emotionally accept death even before treatment progresses.
Key insights:
- Fear can weaken faith.
- Mental surrender can precede physical decline.
- Words of faith must align with inner conviction.
He encourages believers not to stop living, not to stop serving, praying, planning, or building, even in difficult seasons.

2. Restlessness
The second blocker he identifies is restlessness; panic-driven behavior rooted in fear.
He highlights three forms they include:
Constant Symptom Checking
Excessive online searches and repeated symptom analysis can increase anxiety. While he admits he reduced (not eliminated) research, he shifted his focus toward survivor testimonies and encouraging stories.
Jumping From Church to Church
During his illness, Apostle Okonkwo transitioned to Dunamis International Gospel Centre (Glory Dome) under the leadership of Dr. Paul Enenche.
Though he did not meet the senior pastor personally at the time, consistent attendance and exposure to testimonies strengthened his faith. He remained there from 2019 to 2023, even after his reported healing.
His point: stability strengthens faith; panic weakens it.
Seeking Alternative Spiritual Sources
He cautions against consulting questionable spiritual or mystical sources out of desperation, describing such actions as distractions that can deepen confusion.

Practical Lessons From His Healing Journey
From Apostle Okonkwo’s experience, readers can draw several principles:
- Refuse to internalize fear.
- Avoid panic-driven decisions.
- Stay spiritually planted.
- Feed faith intentionally.
- Keep building even when the outcome seems uncertain.
Throughout his illness, he took daily photographs of himself as a declaration of expectation that he would recover. He describes emerging stronger after the season.

Glory to God, we thank God for healing and preserving his life.
